Rotary District 3790 Kickoff Project: Simultaneous Fruits and Vegetable Planting
“Taking Inspiration from Our Neighborhood”
Our Rotary District 3790 Kickoff Project this year gets us to backyard gardening basics and caring for the environment. This morning and early afternoon was a sunny day, June 28, 2020. Bren and I, our children Karu, Angel, Lica and Nigel set out early to get inspiration from our vicinity here at Woodstown Condominium. We are indeed lucky in our place to have landscapes among the pavements and road. Areas where we can plant and appreciate our surroundings.
During our walk in the area we were surprised to see trees of jackfruit, coffee and indian mango. Around the admin office we saw plants of chayote and squash. Our neighbors had plants of papaya, basil, tomatoes and dragon fruit.
We were lucky to also have met our friendly neighbors, Dr. Faith Generao and her dad who both have the green thumb for planting and maintaining vegetables and ornamental plants and flowers, some of them from their travels. Harvesting from their yard to the kitchen were rosemary, onion leeks, pechay, and varieties of lettuce. They also had plants of sweet potato, mung and french beans, mint, calamansi and chili.
My family and I enjoyed the walk. It was indeed a great bonding among us and also a chance to get to know our neighbors better. It was a walk of great inspiration.
God is good. – Tolitz Villanueva RY 2020-2021 (RC of Baguio Summer Capital)
